3.1 - How to cut?

Unfold3D offers a handy interface to select edges and define your cutline.

3.1.1 Selecting edges

Switch to "edge selection" mode by clicking on the button on the left hand pannel.

To select an edge, hold down the "SHIFT" key and left click on an edge - or "SHIFT"+right click and drag the mouse to rectangle-select.

To de-select and edge, hold down the "CTRL" key and left click on an edge - or "CTRL"+right click and drag to rectangle-deselect.

3.1.2 Edge to edge selection

This feature allows you to select a whole line between two edges on the mesh.

Switch to "edge selection" mode, then click

Select a starting edge ("SHIFT" + left click), then hold down the "ALT" key and left click on the ending edge.
When the starting edge is selected, if you hold down the "ALT" key, Unfold3D highlights the path you are going to select when you browse over other edges.

After you have selected a path, the last clicked edge is taken as the starting edge for a new path.

3.1.3 Bidirectional path

This feature allows you to select a path starting at an edge and crossing through the neighbors. This allows you to easily select a loop around a part of your mesh (around the arm of a character, for example) or a line going from one border to another.

Switch to "edge selection" mode, then click

Hold down the "ALT" key and click on an edge to select a two-way path starting from the edge. While you hold down the "ALT" key, Unfold3D highlights the path you are going to select when you browse over other edges.

3.1.4 Cutting the mesh

Once you have selected the edges you want to cut, simply press the Cut button in the upper bar to apply the cut.

You can also weld back edges you had previously cut by selecting them and pressing the Weld button.

NOTE: Unfold3D will not modify the mesh information from the loaded OBJ file. If the mesh was cut out before beeing loaded, Unfold3D won't weld back two edges together when they are marked as split in the OBJ file - even if their coordinates match.

3.2.5 Packing submeshes

During the cutting part, if your mesh is cut in several pieces, and you want to separate them to have a better view, you can click the Pack button. The right hand display will show the submeshes spread apart.
